While skulls are very popular in our modern culture, this beautiful rosary is in the tradition of old convent/monastery rosaries. In the convent/monastery there was always a skull on the table in the refectory. The skull is the memento mori. Memento mori is a Latin phrase translated as "Remember your mortality", "Remember you must die" or "Remember you will die". It is there to remind us of our death so that we live well (a life pleasing to God).
