Autograph signature of Vittorio Emanuele III and of the Minister of the Navy Paolo Emilio Thaon di Revel. Emilio Thaon di Revel, Duke of the Sea (Turin, June 19, 1857 - Rome, March 24, 1948), was an Italian admiral and politician. Son of Ottavio Thaon di Revel and his first wife, Guglielmina Doria, after being nominated as grand admiral he received the title of first duke of the sea. He was president of the Italian Geographic Society from 1921 to 1923. he He spent his childhood in the Villa Revel in Castagneto Po, until he joined the Navy in 1873. Ensign in 1877, in 1879 he participated in the circumnavigation of the globe aboard the Garibaldi frigate . His career continued with the appointments as Lieutenant of Vessel in 1880, Lieutenant of Vessel in 1886 and Captain of Corvette in 1896, when he was for four years Adjutante di Campo to King Umberto I.
