Founded in 1932 by the Spanish-born restaurateur Manolo del Valle, owner of the Pigalle, the Perroquet, La Cigalle and the Manolo Bar on Avenida Juárez, among other famous establishments in the capital, the legendary hotel had an elegant party room called Grillón and a very famous French food restaurant, which for many years was a meeting place for celebrities from entertainment, art and politics in Mexico.
