After the oil expropriation, "Charrito Pemex" was born, a character that accompanied the image of the parastatal company from 1938 to 1976.

The Charrito Pemex. In the years around 1940, Pemex sold clear oil directly to people, who used it for stoves, “heaters” and the famous oil lamps. To promote this product, the caricature of “El charrito Pemex” was created, a friendly charro, dressed in green, small in size, and bowlegged. Also, an actor with the same characteristics was hired, who traveled throughout the country to spread the benefits of the aforementioned oil. This character was found in streets and avenues, but he is particularly remembered in the areas surrounding Avenida Juárez, in Mexico City, where he greeted and smiled at passersby.
