This is one of these rare 2nd class relics of Veronica's Veil, bearing the stamp of St. Peter's Basilica and the Seal of a Cardinal. It´s title states: "Vera Effiges Sacri Vultus Domini Nostri Jesu Christi que, Romae, in Sacrosancta Basilica S. Petri in vaticano osservatur et colitur. ": "True Representation of the Holy Face of Our Lord Jesus Christ, which, in Rome, is venerated in the Most holy Basilica of St. Peter in the Vatican." The relic comes in its original wood frame. It comes together with its original document, confirming the authenticity of the relic, which was touched to the original Veronika's veil, the True Cross relic of the Vatican and the Holy Lance by the Canons of St. Peter's Basilica, dated 1876, during the Pontificate of Pope Pius IX.

The reproductions authorized by the Vatican were affixed with the papal seal in wax or sealing wax, that is, the seal of a cardinal was placed, or, later, that of the Archconfraternity of the Sacred Face.

The reproduction of this relic dates back to the miracle that occurred in the Vatican in 1849 when, exposed to the faithful, the Veil became extraordinarily vivid and brilliant. From then on, every year for about 50 years, reproductions of the Veil were created on linen or silk to be offered to the faithful on the occasion of public exhibitions held every Passion Sunday.
