Northern Greece / Balkans region, ca. late 18th to 19th century CE. A clasp knife with a folding steel blade and silver-copper handle cast with a animal's head as the pommel. A ring through the steel tang for suspension on a belt or chatelaine as a decorative accessory when not in use. The decorative nature suggests light, domestic use such as sharpening pens.
Compare to a similar knife owned by the poet Lord Byron (1788 to 1824) that he acquired in Greece shortly before his death that is part of the Philhellenism Museum exhibition "The Philhellene Fighter."
