INDEPENDENCE CENTENNIAL, Sept. 1910
On the evening of September 15, the same day the president turned eighty, Díaz presided over the "Grito" ceremony in the Zócalo of Mexico City, before more than one hundred thousand people. Before 1910, this celebration was celebrated in the early hours of the 16th, but the president moved it forward to the evening of the 15th so that it could coincide with his birthday. The following day, the monument known as the Angel of Independence, whose construction dates back to 1902, was inaugurated.
