Antique Globe by Adolf Mang. Germany, Circa 1920. With original lens in the base
Size: 62 cm L x 33 cm diameter
Descripción:
Antique globe by Adolf Mang, made in Germany around 1920, original to the period and in good condition. This item was manufactured by the company owned by Adolf Mang (1849-1933), a science professor who lived and worked in Heidelberg. He was also a writer and designed and manufactured globes like the one shown in the photographs. Mang globes became very popular in the first half of the 20th century for their excellent craftsmanship and fine designs. This particular globe is mounted on a solid beechwood base with an elegant walnut finish. It is well preserved, although it shows some signs of wear consistent with use. The globe itself also shows some signs of wear, but these do not detract from its appearance and lend it authenticity and character. The globe is connected to the base by a graduated brass arc that allows the north and south latitude of different locations around the world to be indicated.
