HISTORY
________________________________________
ROME
(330-348)
Rome was founded on April 21, 753 BC according to Varro (Ab Urbe Condita). The city, with a population ranging from 400,000 to one million inhabitants during the High Empire, began to lose its importance from the second half of the 3rd century. Constantine's choice of a new capital, from 326 onward, dealt a fatal blow from which the Urbs would not recover until the Renaissance. The city continued to survive for nearly another one hundred and fifty years, despite two sacks: those of 410 and 455. Rome is no longer in Rome.
